The Sultanate, India Sign Cooperation Agreement in Maritime Transport



 Muscat, Dec 24 (ONA) --- The Sultanate’s government signed today a cooperation agreement with the government of the Republic of India in the field of maritime transport.


 The agreement aims at developing maritime relations between companies and institutions concerned with shipping and maritime transport, as well as stimulating growth in maritime navigation between the two countries.


 The agreement was signed by Said bin Hamdoon Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Ports and Maritime Affairs and Munu Mahawar, Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Sultanate.


The signing ceremony, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was attended by Youssef bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India, and a number of officials.


The agreement comes within the framework of cooperation between the governments of the two friendly countries to enhance the existing economic and trade relations between them. It also lays the foundations for cooperation in the field of maritime transport and ports in order to develop, facilitate and regulate commercial marine transport between them and achieve common development that serves the benefits of the two friendly countries.


The agreement also aims to facilitate the exchange and training of employees and students from various marine institutions, such as marine educational institutions, as well as the exchange of information necessary to accelerate and facilitate the flow of commercial goods between the two countries and encourage cooperation between commercial fleets.
