Muscat, Feb.12 (ONA) ----The Steering Committee of the Omani Cultural Heritage Strategic Research Program (OHSRP) held its first meeting for this year at the building of the Public Authority for Radio and Television. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser al- Harrasi, Chairman of the Steering Committee.
The meeting discussed the proposals submitted by the research teams in the projects approved by the committee in its previous meetings, namely the Language Heritage Project, Place-Related Tales and Legends Project, and the Omani Trade and Industry Personalities Projects. The reports of scientific committees, negotiation and accreditation procedures, and support mechanisms were discussed.
The committee also approved the proposal of the Omani Medical Heritage Project, which researches and studies Omani doctors who contributed to the development of medical science in various historical eras. The importance of the project lies in shedding light on the Omani doctors who have contributed to the historical and civilizational achievements throughout the times and highlighting their medical achievements , to emphasize the pioneering role of Omani scientists in the field of medicine and its sciences. It also investigates the extent of the Omani cultural influence on other civilizations in the transfer of medical science and its development in different historical ages , as well as collecting and indexing their manuscripts in medicine and its sciences.
The meeting also reviewed the mechanisms for implementing the (Innovate and Invest) initiative adopted by the program, which aims to develop the innovative skills of Omani youth in the fields of cultural heritage, as well as a review of the media achievements of the program for 2019, and a proposal for the media plan for 2020.
