The Sultanate Uses Nuclear Technologies to Preserve Heritage




     Muscat, Feb 18 (ONA)---- Dr. Nasser bin Said Al-Jahwari, Associate Professor at the Department of Archeology in Sultan Qaboos University, gave a presentation on Oman's cultural heritage, its importance and the Sultanate’s role in preserving it using all available technologies, including nuclear and radiological technologies that do not cause damage for artifacts.


    This came during the second meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency to review and evaluate the performance of the regional technical cooperation project on harnessing nuclear science and technology to protect and preserve the cultural heritage of Asian and Indian Ocean countries, which was recently held in Bali, Indonesia.


    The meeting discussed the achievements by the participating countries during the first period of the project and the importance of using radiation techniques in this field. It also discussed challenges and difficulties in using these technologies in each country, the future work plan of the countries participating in the project and the most important needs and requirements that the agency can provide to help the countries of Asia and the Indian Ocean to preserve their cultural heritage in the best way.
