China Launches Mega Facility in Search of Dark Matter

Beijing, 7 Dec (ONA) --- China has inaugurated the world's deepest and most extensive underground laboratory situated 2,400 meters (7,874 feet) below the surface in southwest China, marking a significant advancement in the global quest for dark matter.

The launch of the China Jinping Underground Laboratory, following three years of upgrades and expansion, was reported by the state news agency Xinhua.

The facility, which provides unique testing conditions not accessible elsewhere, is anticipated to pave the way for groundbreaking deep-earth experiments.

Positioned at an extreme depth that shields it from the majority of cosmic rays, the lab is considered an optimal "ultra-clean" location for scientists to identify dark matter—an elusive substance believed to constitute at least a quarter of the universe.
