Apple Launches New Feature to Hide Distracting Pop-ups

Washington, 6 Aug (ONA) --- Apple has announced a new feature that aims to hide distracting elements on websites. This feature, called 'Distraction Control', allows people to hide content that covers web pages as they navigate the internet, like cookie preference pop-ups.

This feature also aims to remove email sign-up pages that often appear on websites, for example.

The company said that if users block one of those important pop-ups before they choose their settings, it will be as if they have just dismissed the pop-up.

The new feature will be available on Mac, iPhone, and iPad later this year (2024), and will appear in the bar at the top or bottom of the browser, which users can tap to turn on. They will then be able to choose and remove the distracting content they don't want to see.

The feature will not hide ads, and hidden items can also be returned by clicking on the icon in the search field and selecting the "Show hidden items" button.

The new feature will be available with the fifth iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia betas, when they're released to the public later this year, but it's now being added to new developer betas.
