Dhofar Municipal Council Discusses Environmental Programs

Salalah, 29 Apr (ONA) —— The Municipal Council of Dhofar Governorate, during its fourth regular meeting this year, addressed several vital topics related to community and environmental sectors across the governorate’s wilayats.

Chaired by HH Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, the council reviewed the role of the Directorate General of Education in the governorate in raising awareness about the importance of school attendance. The discussion focused on creating an encouraging environment to reduce absenteeism, promote school discipline, and strengthen partnerships between schools and the community to motivate students to commit to their studies. Additionally, the council emphasized the need for a joint awareness plan to enhance community understanding of education’s significance.

On environmental matters, the council explored ways to regulate the handling of waste from fishing vessels docked in the governorate’s ports, in coordination with the Directorate General of Environment in Dhofar. It also reviewed procedures for collecting and safely disposing of waste from transit vessels in line with international standards. The committee recommended organizing regular beach clean-up campaigns in collaboration with relevant authorities and civil society to protect the marine environment, reflecting social responsibility and supporting eco-tourism and marine tourism in the governorate.

The meeting also addressed recommendations from the Legal Affairs Committee regarding regulations for approved companies importing livestock into Dhofar Governorate, as well as allocating certain related activities to citizens to enhance their role in supporting the local economy.

Concluding the session, the council reviewed the plan of the Governorate Development Committee, which includes following up on referred topics and monitoring ongoing development projects in cooperation with relevant entities, as part of the council’s efforts to promote comprehensive development in Dhofar Governorate.
