RNO Ends Service of Ship, Utilizes It As Home for Marine Life, Diving Revellers

Musandam, 7 Feb (ONA)—The Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) today sank one of its vessels that went out of service to utilize its wreck in forming coral reefs and attract marine organisms in a manner that suits Omani marine environment.

It is intended that the ship will later act as a tourism attraction spot and a site for marine research and studies to be conducted by scientists.

The submerged RNO vessel was one of the fastest in operations during its 35-year service that included a variety of national tasks and missions.

Sayyid Ibrahim Said Al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam, said that the site to sink the ship was selected due to the fact that it falls in a naturally secluded area, away from marine currents. The site is already frequented by divers. The vessel will add another element of beauty and activate tourism in the governorate.
