Omani Cave Exploration Team Documents Cave in Al Jabal Al Akhdar

Al Jabal Al Akhdar, Nizwa, 13 Mar (ONA) --- The Omani Cave Exploration team has documented a cave called "Khaslat Safi Sahra" in the village of Safi Sahra in Al Jabal Al Akhdar or "Green Mountain" in the Wilayat of Nizwa, Governorate of A'Dakhiliyah.

The stages of discovering the site of the cave came with the help of the people residing at Safi Sahra area, where the team faced some difficulties to enter the cave represented in the presence of some rocks that might fall at its entrance.

The team removed the rocks at its vertical entrance to avoid falling off. The team had difficulty entering the cave due to its narrow paths, forcing the team to crawl through these paths.

The period of discovering, documenting and surveying the cave took from 4 to 5 hours. The cave will represent a tourist attraction for the region, thanks to its unique, aesthetic touches. The cave provides an exploratory adventure due to its variety of living organisms, such as spiders, frogs and others in large and varied sizes, in addition to various lime formations as well.

The cave was formed in sediments of limestone dating back to the Cretaceous period. It contains an impressive cluster of diverse cave deposits, as well as distinctive types of creatures that live in caves.

The Omani Cave Exploration team surveyed the cave and its corridors. It also documented the its scientific details.

A second edition of the book "A Guide to the Caves of Oman" will be released. It will include the caves documented by the team during the previous period.
