Nizwa University Hosts International Conference on Heritage, Tourism, Culture

Nizwa, 3 Jan (ONA) --- Activities of a 3-day international conference titled "Heritage, Tourism and Culture: Renewed Visions for Civilizational Development" kicked off at the University of Nizwa in A'Dakhiliyah Governorate today.

The conference is organized by the University of Nizwa in partnership with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and the International Historians Association.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Salim Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism.

More than 200 experts, researchers and tourism parties from Oman and abroad are taking part in the conference, which will present more than 80 working papers on tangible and intangible cultural heritage, the reality of tourism in Oman and the Arab world, the digital revolution and the role of cultural institutions in promoting cultural diversity and cultural industries in supporting the economy and shaping identity.

The conference coincides with the launch of Nizwa University’s 20th cultural season. Specialized working papers of the conference address heritage industry, the restoration and development of archaeological neighbourhoods for tourism and Museum Industry (which addresses the contribution of private museums in promoting tourism and documenting salient features of Omani heritage).

The ceremony included visual presentations on tourism development, Greater Nizwa urban strategy, Al Jabal Al Akhdar Mountain Project and A’Dakhiliyah Governorate’s vision for a sustainable local economy.

On the sidelines of the conference, the minister opened an exhibition that showcases exhibits by government and private institutions and university students and highlights the Sultanate of Oman’s cultural and tourism heritage.
