National Young Professionals Committee Visits Nizwa Center of Excellence
Nizwa, 8 Feb 2026 (ONA) --- The National Young Professionals (NYP) Committee for the Energy and Minerals Sector at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals organized a field visit for students from the University of Nizwa to the SLB Nizwa Center of Excellence in the Wilayat of Nizwa.

The visit, coordinated with SLB and the University of Nizwa, aimed to bridge the gap between academic education outcomes and labour market requirements, introduce students to the real-world work environment in the energy sector, and familiarize them with the latest practices and technologies used in this vital sector.

As many as 18 students specializing in Petrochemical, Electrical, and Environmental Engineering participated in the visit. They were introduced to the latest technologies and practices in the energy industry, which included the Well Fluids Testing Center, the Well Data Logging Unit, the Assembly and Repair Unit, in addition to the Electrical Submersible Pump Manufacturing Unit, which is managed by an Omani team.
Specialists at the center provided detailed explanations of work mechanisms and the technologies used, offering the students an opportunity to interact and ask specialized questions, which positively contributed to enriching their scientific and applied knowledge.

At the conclusion of the visit, Eng. Maram Al Balushi, Chairperson of the National Young Professionals Committee, clarified that the committee, through its programs and initiatives, seeks to add real value that contributes to empowering Omani youth and showcasing their capabilities to the job market, whether they are students or young professionals working in the sector. She emphasized that field visits represent an effective tool in building early professional awareness and enabling students to have direct exposure to the work environment, thereby supporting paths of their future career.
It is worth noting that the National Young Professionals (NYP) Committee for the Energy and Minerals Sector was established under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals in 2018. It seeks to empower young national talents in the energy and minerals sectors through skill development, promoting innovation, and building leadership capacities, in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
Since its inception, the committee has achieved numerous qualitative accomplishments, most notably: establishing a national platform that brings together the sector's youth from various entities; participating in and representing at international events; providing specialized youth programs within energy conferences; launching the media magazine Spark by NYP; organizing specialized competitions; building strategic partnerships with sector companies; in addition to implementing field visits and workshops across various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
