Environment Authority Launches "Plastic-Free Market" Initiative in North A’Sharqiyah

Ibra, 30 Jul (ONA) --- The Environment Authority today launched the "Plastic-Free Market" initiative under the slogan "Towards a Clean and Sustainable Environment in North A’Sharqiyah Markets."

This initiative, held in North A'Sharqiyah Governorate, is a collaborative effort with several government and private entities.

Mohammed Amer Al Hajri, Director of the Environment Authority in North A’Sharqiyah, stated that the initiative is part of the Authority's commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and reducing plastic consumption. It also aims to raise community awareness about the dangers of plastic bags and encourage the use of environmentally friendly alternatives.

He emphasized that the initiative focuses on commercial markets and shopping centers to reduce plastic waste and promote behavioral change through the participation of the public and merchants in protecting the environment.

Al Hajri explained that the initiative included the distribution of 250 reusable bags, 45 awareness brochures, and 200 multilingual pamphlets in Arabic, English, and Urdu to ensure the comprehensive reach of the awareness message.

He added that activities are planned to continue until the end of the year, coinciding with the implementation of the ministerial decision to ban plastic bags, thereby contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals.
