North A’Sharqiyah Governorate Observes World Tourism Day
Ibra, 28 Sep (ONA) --- The Department of Heritage and Tourism in North A’Sharqiyah Governorate today organized an event on the occasion of World Tourism Day, which falls on 27 September every year.
This year, World Tourism Day takes the theme "Tourism and Sustainable Transformation."
In Oman, the event was observed by activities held in the two archaeological villages in the Wilayat of Ibra: Al Manzafah and Al Qanatir. The activities saw the participation of various public and private sector institutions.
During the event, a group of productive families, owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and craftsmen were hosted. School students and members of the local community practised rides on electric carts and horses riding.
The event also featured the experience of Harat Al Aqar neighbourhood in the Wilayat of Nizwa, A’Dakhiliyah Governorate, as well as mechanisms for promoting archaeological and historical sites.
The observation of World Tourism Day event was aimed to enhance the Sultanate of Oman's position as a global tourism destination, activate tourism and highlight role of tourism projects in preserving natural resources.
