Duqm Coastal Road Project Assigned

Duqm, 20 Aug (ONA) --- The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) has assigned the project for the construction of a dual coastal road in the tourist area of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD).

The road, which is 14 kilometers long, will connect the tourist area to the fishing port and the fisheries and food industries complex.

The project consists of two lanes in each direction and includes four main roundabouts, a modern surface water drainage system, guidance signs, concrete and steel barriers, and service facilities. This is part of an integrated plan to develop the transport system within the zone's master plan.

Eng. Ahmed Ali Akaak, CEO of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, affirmed that the coastal road project represents a qualitative addition to the tourist area's infrastructure. It meets the highest engineering standards for quality and traffic safety and enhances the area's appeal for tourism investments and related economic activities.

In a statement to Oman News Agency, he added that the road will run through routes overlooking stunning natural landscapes that range from coastlines to natural hills and future development projects. This will provide visitors with a unique experience and increase the vitality of the tourism sector.

Eng. Akaak also pointed out that the project has a strategic dimension as it directly connects the tourist area to the fishing port and then to Duqm Airport, contributing to the integration of the transport and logistics system. The road will also provide a direct link between hotels, resorts, and recreational facilities and support current and future investment projects in the tourism sector, which enhances Duqm's position as a promising tourist destination that supports the national economy and Oman's economic diversification plans.

The tourist area is one of the most prominent components of SEZAD, covering an area of approximately 30 square kilometers. Of this area, 15 square kilometers directly overlook the 18-kilometer seafront, while the remaining area is situated on nearby highlands, providing a unique diversity for tourist activities.

Work is underway to develop a detailed master plan for the area to ensure that tourist activities are distributed according to the latest urban planning systems, specify architectural facade requirements, and establish artificial development projects that will add to the area's aesthetic appeal and enhance its ability to attract both domestic and foreign tourism.
