North Al Batinah Forum Highlights Role of Omani Women in Tourism Sector

Sohar, 27 Oct (ONA) --- A forum focusing on women’s sustainable tourism projects was held in the Wilayat of Sohar today.

The forum sought ways to enable Omani women to play a key role in the tourism sector, enhance communication among female tourism entrepreneurs and develop policies to furnish an environment that encourages women’s active engagement in the tourism industry.

The forum was held under the auspices of Dr. Said Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy, in the presence of representatives of government and private establishments engaged in developing the tourism sector in the Sultanate of Oman.

The forum's programme featured the experiences of five inspiring women who met with success in the tourism sector. It also included a working paper on the experience of the Omani Women's Academy and its role in empowering emerging companies in the tourism sector.

Two dialogue sessions were held as part of the event. The first was titled "Policies and Plans to Support Women's Sustainable Tourism Projects (Financing and Legislation)". The second session was themed "The Role of National Media in Highlighting Women's Tourism Projects."

An exhibition held on the sidelines of the forum showcased the products 20 small and medium enterprises (SMEs). A number of experts and tour guides participated in the exhibition, which featured various related aspects of archaeological tourism, adventure tourism, heritage tourism, marine tourism, sightseeing tours, sports and hotel services.

The exhibition also highlighted the extent to which innovation and technology could enhance the development of women's tourism projects.
