A’Suwaiq Hospital Worth RO 75m Officially Opens
A’Suwaiq, 7 Jan 2026 (ONA) --- The Ministry of Health today inaugurated A’Suwaiq Hospital in North Al Batinah Governorate, at a total cost exceeding RO 75 million.
The inauguration coincides with the 6th anniversary of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s accession to the throne.
The project aligns with the strategic objectives of Oman Vision 2040 to provide advanced, specialized healthcare services, promote decentralization of health services, ease pressure on Sohar Hospital in the densely populated Governorate, facilitate access for citizens, and enhance health security.
The inauguration ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Hamad Thuwayni Al Said, in the presence of Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health.
The opening ceremony of A’Suwaiq Hospital featured a speech by Dr. Said Harib Al Lamki, the Ministry of Health’s Undersecretary for Health Affairs.
In his address, Al Lamki emphasized that the inauguration of A’Suwaiq Hospital represents a significant leap forward in the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens and residents. He highlighted that this milestone reflects the wise vision of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik in making human health a national priority that cannot be postponed or compromised. The project also manifests the policy of carefully planned expansion of healthcare facilities, ensuring accessibility, reducing referral times, and improving the community’s health indicators.
Al Lamki stated that A’Suwaiq Hospital is designed to be a fully integrated healthcare facility serving three main wilayats: A’Suwaiq, Al Musanaah, and Al Khaborah. The hospital meets the needs of a rapidly growing population experiencing significant urban development.
He concluded by noting that the hospital contributes to strengthening community health through therapeutic, diagnostic, rehabilitative, and preventive services, while also enhancing readiness for medical emergencies and health crises.
During the ceremony, HH Sayyid Hamad Thuwayni Al Said unveiled the commemorative plaque, officially declaring the hospital open. The chief guest of the event and the attendees then toured the hospital’s departments and facilities, and received a detailed briefing on the services provided.
The ceremony program also featured a visual presentation highlighting the project, as well as a vibrant selection of traditional folk arts that captured the community’s joy in celebrating the inauguration of the project.
Constructed in accordance with the latest international hospital standards, A’Suwaiq Hospital represents a significant qualitative and quantitative addition to healthcare services in the governorate. Its importance is further enhanced by its strategic location on the main road linking North Al Batinah Governorate with Musandam and Al Buraimi Governorates. The hospital serves as a key healthcare institution providing primary and secondary healthcare services to citizens and residents of Wilayat A’Suwaiq and neighboring wilayats.
The hospital is built on a land area of 278,347 square meters, with a total built-up area of 47,020.68 square meters. The hospital, which accommodates 260 inpatients beds with potential for future expansion, comprises a main clinical services building, supporting buildings, and public facilities. The main building includes wards for surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, general medicine, operating theaters and their annexes, as well as two wards for women and maternity services.
The new hospital also features advanced medical units, including adult intensive care, pediatric intensive care, neonatal and premature infant care, dialysis, cardiology, physiotherapy, and sterilization units. In addition, it includes an accident and emergency department, day care services, a comprehensive diagnostic imaging department, a central pharmacy, outpatient clinics, a conference and seminar hall, laundries, and a kitchen.
Supporting buildings house transformer rooms, electrical and utility services, and pump rooms. Public facilities include security rooms, warehouses, and parking areas for staff and visitors.
This project reflects the Omani government’s commitment—represented by the Ministry of Health—to providing high-quality, accessible healthcare services for all, contributing to improved quality of life and public health, and underscoring the Ministry’s ongoing dedication to developing the healthcare system across all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
