Oman Participates in 62nd Session of Asia-Africa Legal Consultative Organization in Thailand
Bangkok, 9 Sep (ONA) --- Represented by the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, the Sultanate of Oman is taking part in the 62nd session of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) in Bangkok. The meeting lasts from 8 to 13 September 2024.
Oman’s delegation is led by Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs.
Speaking at the session, Al Saidi affirmed the Sultanate of Oman’s full support for all the efforts made by the AALCO in consolidating bonds among member states. He also spoke about adverse humanitarian conditions experienced by the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip as a result of the brutal Israeli aggression that reflects complete disregard for basic rules of international law, international humanitarian law and international norms and charters.
Al Saidi urged the international community to fulfill its humanitarian duty to stop the bloodshed, starvation and displacement of the Palestinian people, who, he said, deserve to look forward to a better future of security, peace, freedom and dignity.
In this context, the minister underscored the need to immediately halt the dangerous escalation taking place in the occupied Palestinian territories, protect the lives of civilians and allow them to receive humanitarian aid without restrictions.
Al Saidi reiterated Oman's firm stance on the Palestinian cause. He underlined the necessity of achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in Palestine, supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, putting an end to the Israeli escalation, protecting innocent civilians and stopping their bloodshed.
He called for concrete action to implement international humanitarian law and international conventions for the Palestinian people who, he observed, are being subjected to unprecedented attacks by the Israeli occupation forces.
The meeting discussed a report on topics related to the United Nations International Law Commission (which will hold its upcoming 75th meeting on the international trade and investment law), the international law in cyberspace and the environmental and sustainable development law.
