Oman Participates in Meeting of Arab Transport Ministers’ Council

Cairo, 13 Nov (ONA) --- The Sultanate of Oman took part in the 37th session meeting of the Arab Transport Ministers’ Council, the 73rd session meeting of the executive council and the 29th session meeting of the Arab AcademyforScience,Technology, andMaritime Transport.

The Sultanate of Oman’s delegation in the meetings of the Arab Transport Ministers’ Council and the Arab AcademyforScience,Technology, andMaritime Transport was headed by Abdullah Nassir Al Rahbi, Oman’s Ambassador to Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League. Meanwhile Oman’s delegation at the meeting of the executive council was headed by Advisor Dr. Ahmed Salim Ja’aboub.

The meetings discussed means of supporting the Palestinian economy, implementing the strategic plan for sectoral development in Jerusalem (2018-2022), and enhancing integration among Arab countries in the fields of land, sea, and air transport, with the aim of facilitating the movement of transport and inter-trade.

The meetings addressed means of promoting the transport sector infrastructure to contribute to achieving sustainable development and keeping pace with modern technological developments, as well as cooperation in the areas of security and safety for maritime and air transport, in a bid to enhance passenger safety and reduce risks.

The meeting of the Arab AcademyforScience,Technology, andMaritime Transport discussed ways to develop the Academy and raise its level of efficiency in a way that contributes to achieving the goals of the joint Arab action. It also reviewed reports and recommendations of the Academy’s Executive Council for the 47th, extraordinary and 48th sessions, and the establishment of a new branch of the Academy in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, to enhance the role of the Academy and expand the scope of its services.

The meeting underlined the importance of innovation and smart technologies in enhancing the efficiency of the transportation sector and achieving sustainable development goals.
