International Conference Highlights Historical, Civilizational Role of Sur

Sur, 7 Dec 2025 (ONA) —The Sur International Conference titled "The Historical and Civilizational Dimension" commenced today in the Wilayat of Sur.

The conference aims to highlight the historical and civilizational role of Sur, deepen research into its maritime and cultural trajectories, and enhance its scientific presence on the map of historical studies in the region. The conference will continue until 10 December.

Sheikh Dr. Hilal Ali Al Habsi, Wali of Sur, the chief guest of the event and head of the organizing committee, affirmed that this conference was initiated to present an advanced scientific vision based on rigorous research methodologies. It combines historical presentation with civilizational analysis and relies on academic research tools to document Sur’s contributions in the fields of navigation, shipbuilding, international relations, and commercial and cultural interaction, as well as its role in shaping one of the most prominent centers of civilizational communication in the Indian Ocean.
