“National Campaign to Raise Awareness About Hazards of Climatic Hazards, Tsunamis” Concludes

Qurayat, 11 Dec 2025 (ONA) --- The Wilayat of Qurayat, Governorate of Muscat, today saw the conclusion of the 4th edition of the “National Campaign to Raise Awareness About Climatic Hazards and Tsunamis”.

The closing of the 3-day event included an exercise on partial evacuation in the event of tsunamis. The exercise, carried out at Al Munjazat Basic Education School, aimed to train students, administrative and teaching staff about how to deal with such emergency situations.

The exercise sought to convert theoretical knowledge into established practical behaviour and ensure the readiness of the target groups to immediately deal with any early warning signals.

Three visual presentations were held at Qurayat Club: The first highlighted the Sultanate of Oman’s experience during Cyclone Shaheen in September 2021. The second presentation focused on tsunami evacuation exercises, while the third documented aspects of national solidarity that prevailed during climatic conditions.

The programmes of the national campaign also included three more presentations. In the first presentation, Major Yahya bin Mohammed Al Balushi, from the National Emergency Management Centre, outlined the National Emergency Management Scheme.

In the second presentation, Hilal bin Salim Al Hajri, Head of the Department of Forecasting and Early Warning at the Civil Aviation Authority, reviewed the operational procedures of the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre.

In the third presentation, Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Hinai, a weather conditions observer at the Civil Aviation Authority, explained the role of weather observation personnel in spreading public awareness.

In addition, specialists and attendees participated in a dialogue session about standard mechanisms to address climate hazards and promote a culture of community safety.

The national campaign saw wide response from various segments of society, notably in educational institutions and public places.

The campaign realized its target goals of preparing for emergencies, supporting community partnership during the stage of recovery from the impacts of climatic incidents and applying measures to save lives and protect properties.
