Environment Authority Organizes Regional Workshop on Compliance with Climate Change Agreement
Muscat, 15 Dec 2025 (ONA) --- Acting in cooperation with the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Environment Authority is organizing a 4-day regional workshop on compliance with the principles of the UN Convention, with effect from today.
The workshop, which focuses on topics related to Article 6 and carbon pricing, brings together representatives of government departments concerned.

The workshop aims to enhance regional interaction and cooperation among member states towards the implementation of the UN Convention’s provisions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. It also seeks to address key gaps in the implementation of Article 6 of the Convention, which entered into full force after the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The regional workshop serves as an interactive platform to promote genuine partnerships between member states and experts from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The workshop deals with measures of assessing carbon pricing globally, with emphasis on the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA).
It will analyze the main trends endorsed by countries in the MENA region, besides aligning carbon pricing with Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), reviewing regional experiences in dealing with Article 6 mechanisms and exchanging expertise about countries’ developing carbon pricing policies to support their respective NDCs.

It is worth noting that the regional workshop is in pursuance of the Sultanate of Oman’s preparations to host “Oman Climate Week” from 14 to 16 September 2026.
The event is envisaged to unite leaders and experts from around the world with a view to cooperation about environmental commitments and combating all types of environment pollution. It also targets the realization of other related objectives like zero neutrality, green economy, circular economy, the protection of biodiversity, optimum management of nature reserves and sustainable development of vegetation cover.
