Inbound, Outbound Cargo Handling in Sohar Port Increases by 32pc
Sohar, 3 Dec (ONA) —— Sohar Port has managed to achieve outstanding results during the third quarter of 2022, as the handling of inbound and outbound goods (total production capacity) at the port increased by 32 percent compared to the same period last year.
The port continued to promote the growth and development of the shipping and logistics sectors in the country, as it recorded a 38 percent growth in the volume of dry bulk cargo, reaching nearly 11.8 million tons, while liquid cargo increased by 28 percent, to more than 5 million tons.
Moreover, the number of containers handled in the port increased by 4 percent to reach 188,604.
The port also recorded a 60 percent growth in transshipment cargo, thanks to its strategic location and solid reputation, as well as its commitment to providing quality and prompt services to the growing transshipment client base.
Emile Hoogsteden, CEO of Sohar Port affirmed to Oman News Agency (ONA) that in 2023, Sohar Port will continue its growth path and enhance the Sultanate of Oman’s position on the map of trade and logistics services in the world.
He added, “We look forward to reaping the fruits of the efforts made in the field of green hydrogen, supported by the agreement that was recently signed between the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of the Netherlands during the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2022 “COP 27”, as it would contribute to creating a value chain in the green hydrogen sector in the world and in providing development opportunities in the port.”
