Bangkok, 13 May (ONA) --- Represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the Sultanate of Oman took part in the opening session of the meeting of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC).

The IOTC meeting began today in Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand, and will run until 17 May 2024.

Oman’s delegation was headed by Eng. Yaqoub Khalfan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Fisheries.

The meeting discusses reports by three committees: The Compliance Committee, the Fisheries Management Standards Committee and the Administration and Financial Affairs Committee.

The meeting also looks into arrangements for the meeting of the IOTC’s main committee comprising delegates from member states, in addition to the meeting of the “Group of 16” that will bring together the representatives of coastal countries in the Indian Ocean.

Oman joined the IOTC in 2000. The Commission, mandated with laws regulating tuna fisheries in the Indian Ocean, comprises 31 countries with full membership and 2 countries on "cooperating non-contracting" membership status.
