Fish Landing Through Artisanal Fishing Exceeds 477K Tons

Muscat, 26 Jan (ONA) --- The amount of total fish landed through artisanal fishing in the Sultanate of Oman by the end of September 2024 reached 477,312 tons, comprising a rise by 11.6% compared to 427,589 tons by the end of September 2023, according to the data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The value fish landed (including artisanal, commercial and coastal) by the end of September 2024 reached RO 348 million.

Statistics indicate that the amount of fish landed through commercial fishing reached 33,688 tons, while fish landed through coastal fishing reached 6,358 tons.

The biggest volume of fish landed through artisanal fishing was recorded in the Governorate of Al Wusta (164,816 tons), followed by the Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah with 137,971 tons. The governorates of North Al Batinah and South Al Batinah recorded 61,532 tons, followed by the Governorate of Dhofar with 49,249 tons. Fish landing through artisanal fishing in the Governorate of Musandam reached 37,061 tons, while the figure in the Governorate of Muscat stood at 26,683 tons.

Small pelagic fishes constituted the highest number of fish landed through artisanal fishing by the end of September 2024 with 237,614 tons.

The quantity of the landed large pelagic fishes through artisanal fishing reached 134,337 tons, while demersal fish reached 85,475 tons.
