Lebanon Files Complaint Against Israel Before UNSC

Beirut, 13 Mar (ONA) --- Through Lebanon's permanent mission to the United Nations (UN) in New York, the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates filed a complaint before the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) against the Israeli entity, following numerous violent Israeli attacks on 11-12 March 2024 targeting civilians in residential areas around the city of Baalbek and adjacent villages resulting in casualties and injuries.

The foreign ministry today issued a statement in which it said that what is particularly concerning is that this escalation occurs in areas far from the southern Lebanese borders, indicating Israel's desire to widen the conflict and drag the entire region into a war that could ignite from such aggressive acts, potentially evolving into a regional conflict sought after by the Israeli government as a lifeline to escape its internal predicaments.

Based on the aforementioned, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Lebanon urges the international community to exert pressure on Israel to halt its ongoing escalating attacks, and reiterates the necessity of condemning, collectively, the Israeli aggression against Lebanon by the members of the Security Council, and working towards the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006), to achieve permanent stability and tranquillity along the borders of southern Lebanon, the statement added. On 16 February 2024, Lebanon had submitted a similar complaint before the UN Security Council against the Israeli entity regarding the 14 February attacks on civilian targets, which were described then as the most violent and bloodiest since 8 October.

The Israeli entity has escalated the intensity of its air and artillery bombardment on towns and villages in southern Lebanon, in conjunction with its unprecedented aggression against the Gaza Strip.
