OIC Welcomes Ceasefire Agreement in Gaza Strip

Jeddah, 16 Jan (ONA) --- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) today welcomed the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

OIC Secretary General Hissein Taha expressed his hope that this would lead to a permanent and comprehensive cessation of the Israeli aggression, the return of the displaced to their homes, the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces, and the provision of adequate and unhindered humanitarian aid to all parts of the Strip.

He called on the international community to implement the relevant UN resolutions on the Palestinian issue, to end the Israeli occupation, and to enable the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate rights, including the embodiment of the sovereignty of their independent state on the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem (Al Quds) as its capital.

The joint mediation efforts carried out by the State of Qatar, in cooperation with the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States, successfully led to an agreement between the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the exchange of prisoners and detainees. The agreement is set to take effect next Sunday, 19 January 2025.
