Oman Participates in Critical Minerals Ministerial in Washington
Washington, 4 Feb 2026 (ONA) — The Sultanate of Oman participated in the Critical Minerals Ministerial in the U.S. capital, Washington, and organized by the U.S. Department of State. The event was inaugurated by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.

The Sultanate of Oman was represented by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister. The event saw participation from a number of foreign ministers, senior officials, and representatives of governments and international institutions from various countries around the world.
The event addressed the importance of critical minerals in supporting the global renaissance across various technological sectors, advanced industries, and the digital and knowledge economy, alongside the challenges associated with investing in critical minerals mining, supply security, and price volatility.
It also explored ways to build reliable and sustainable partnerships, enhance transparency, and exchange expertise in the fields of exploration, development, processing, and trade of these vital minerals.

Throughout the event, participants discussed mechanisms to strengthen multilateral international cooperation, encourage responsible investment, and develop regulatory frameworks that ensure the sustainability of global supply chains. This includes consideration of environmental dimensions and supporting developing nations in building their capacities within this sector and creating new, rewarding job opportunities.
On this occasion, Sayyid Badr emphasized the importance of multilateral cooperation based on mutual trust and common interests. He noted that collective action among participating nations is a fundamental pillar in this regard, essential for achieving the desired resilience of global supply chains. He stressed the need to maintain market stability, secure the growing demands of future industries, and support innovation and technological progress.
