Four Sorloth Goals Deny Real Madrid the Win over Villarreal

Madrid, 20 May (ONA) --- Real Madrid may have already wrapped up the Spanish LaLiga EA Sports title weeks ago, but Carlo Ancelotti will be furious that his side couldn't beat Villarreal after a 4-4 draw.

Ancelottirotated his squad for the trip to the Estadio de la Ceramica withJude Bellingham,Vinicius JuniorandRodrygoall rested on the bench and Arda Guler handed a rare start.

Guler was one of the players to make a real difference and the 19-year-old didn't need an invitation to impress, needing 14 minutes to find the back of the net with a sweetly-struck low drive past goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, the Spanish MARCA newspaper reported.

By the half-hour mark, it was 2-0. Lucas Vazquez crossed from the right and Joselu met the delivery with a fine header to double their lead, netting his 18th goal in all competitions this season.

Villarreal got themselves back into the game courtesy of an error from Dani Ceballos, who gave away possession cheaply inside his own box, and Alexander Sorloth made no mistake when meeting Yerson Mosquera's cross to nod past Andriy Lunin.

But only a minute later, Real Madrid restored their two-goal cushion through Lucas Vazquez, with the full-back finishing off free-flowing move involving Luka Modric and Brahim Diaz.

Lucas reverted back to being the creator once again for the fourth, which arrived on the stroke of half-time.

The 34-year-old supplied a pass for Guler to bag his second goal of the evening as the Turkish youngster found the net from a tight angle.

Guler has now six goals in 10 league appearances - only four have been starts - and he could be a useful player for Ancelotti next season.

Marcelino responded with a triple change at the interval, hooking Ilias Akhomach, Dani Parejo and Jorge Cuenca. And whatever the Spanish boss said to fire up his players clearly worked as the hosts began an incredible fightback.

Sorloth grabbed his brace with another headed finish on 48 minutes and, incredibly, the Dane was celebrating his hat-trick three minutes later after holding off Eder Militao before firing underneath Lunin.

There was more to come too, with Real Madrid's defense flattering to deceive after Gerard Moreno led a counter-attack.

The Spaniard found Sorloth lurking in the box, who beat Lunin for the fourth time in the space of 17 minutes on the field to join Taty Castellanos in celebrating four goals against Real Madrid.

Ancelotti sent on Rodrygo, Nacho and Eduardo Camavinga in search of a late goal. But with both sides sharing the spoils, Sorloth was the real winner after his four goals put him in charge of Pichichi race with 23 goals in the Spanish LaLiga.
