Archaeologists Unearth 13-14 Century Caravanserai in Kazakhstan
Astana, 17 Sep (ONA) --- A team of archaeologists from Atyrau, Kazakhstan, embarked on an intriguing excavation project, unearthing the historical relics of a 13th-14th century caravanserai named “Taskeshu”, situated along the famed Silk Road.
This extensive dig spans 800 square meters and reveals a significant trading hub, marked by fired brick construction, fortified facades, and towers. Over 50 days, the team excavated 24 chambers and seven towers, pinpointing city gates and uncovering coins from Tokhtamysh, the Uzbek Khan, and Nogai rulers' eras.
Additionally, they found valuable artifacts such as everyday items, clay pottery, silver, and bronze coins, offering insights into the region's past commerce and life.
