2,500-Year-Old Celestial Map Unearthed in Italian Fortress

Rome, 25 Dec (ONA) --- Two 50-centimeter diameter circular stones, potentially dating back 2,500 years, were unearthed at Castelliere di Rupinpiccolo, an ancient fortress in Italy's Trieste province.

Believed to be among the oldest celestial maps in Italy, one stone represents the sun, while the other, a celestial map from the 4th century BC, depicts the sky above Rupinpiccolo.

Published in Astronomische Nachrichten, the study reveals 29 signs on the map, mostly aligned with Scorpius, Orion, Pleiades, and potentially Cassiopeia.
